Planets³ Kickstarts Big Bang

Planets³ is not just another Minecraft clone, the fact that it’s voxel-based changes that. It also includes other gameplay elements to give it a bit of variety, but the most unique feature is that it’s all set on a planet-sized cube.

Planets³ EarthIf you like games where you go on an adventure with some first-person RPG dungeon crawling space exploration and a levelling system based on completing quests thrown in, then Planets³ is something you’ll want to pledge to.

“We wanted to use Planets³ KickStarter because it’s the number one in crowdfunding business. With its incredible presence, high visibility and strong community of experienced backers, Planets³ KickStarter was the only choice for our ambitious title. Most importantly, it gets us in touch with our backers so that we can form a meaningful community with the would-be Planets³ adventurers, and involve them closely in the games’ development.” – Michel Thomazeau, Planets³ Project Director.

Most of the concept work is complete, now all developers Cubical Drift need to do is finish off the other 90 percent of the game. Due to the amount of work they want to put into it, a Kickstarter target of $250,000 has been set and is already over ten percent funded.

Each planet is made up of almost 30 TRILLION blocks and has its own unique environments for you to explore or take on a side quest. Doing quests will earn you loot and materials to create new and better weapons, as well as places to build a house using crafted tools.

There are plenty of tiers for you to choose from when you pledge money to the Kickstarter, but because Cubical Drift want to put all their efforts in to the game, there will only be one physical reward available, a poster. It’s an ambitious project which could make its way on to mobile and console platforms if successful.

Planets³ is the first project from the studio and has a 5-year schedule. The game is planned for release on PC in Autumn 2015, giving them ample time to launch a finished product. If all that looks and sounds good to you, check out the Kickstarter and visit the official website for more details.
