It has become the day of days, the most anticipated day of the year so far was met with such great excitement, it was a ray of sunshine at an unfortunate moment of 2020.
Animal Crossing New Horizons was the game on everyone’s lips after the Nintendo Direct broadcast. Hype levels were at an all-time high, it’s amazing how such a simple game can cause fantastic levels of excitement and anticipation.
It came at a time when the world is suffering from a pandemic, but from what I’ve seen, that hasn’t dampened gamers’ spirits. Even at such a time, it’s possible that Animal Crossing New Horizons could still become the best-selling Switch title, not just of 2020, but since the lauch of the Switch so far.
The best-selling Nintendo Switch game of 2019 was Mario Kart 8, but Nick Hayden who is Head of Gaming at Dixons Carphone thinks Animal Crossing New Horizons will out-sell it.
“When Animal Crossing first hit our consoles 19 years ago, it had immediate international success and an immeasurable impact on the Gaming industry, this remains true today. At Currys PC World, we are excited for the launch of the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons game, and based on consumer feedback, we expect it to out-sell the recent Mario Kart on launch, commonly recognised as the best-selling Nintendo game in 2019.”
Can you believe that it’s been 19 years since the first Animal Crossing game was released? Nick goes on to say,
“The pre-orders for the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game are already double the amount we received for the most recent Nintendo Launch – Pokémon Sword and Shields.”
Currys PC World aren’t the only retailers who have mostly sold out, many others who offered a pre-order incentive also sold out.
Mario Kart 8 sold over 22 million copies worldwide by the end of 2019 which made it the best selling Switch game to date. Some of that number can be attributed to bundled copies since you can generally buy even now if you look around.
Example: NINTENDO Switch Lite & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle, the normal Switch bundle is a bit harder to find now.
As for the Animal Crossong New Horizons Switch Carry Case, even those are selling out in places like Currys PC World due to overwhelming demand and a shortage of stock due to the current pandemic situation.
Disclaimer: this isn’t a sponsored post, I was contacted by PR for Currys PC World with some information. That said, if you buy certain Nintendo products at the moment (such as the above-linked Nintendo Switch Lite) you can receive 25% off eligible SanDisk Memory Cards which makes a 128 GB MicroSD card just £22.50 (Animal Crossing New Horizons only needs up to 6.4 GB when bought digitally)!
