As half of the internet already knows, the Daily Star became public enemy number one when they made a completely unfounded claim that Rockstar were creating a game based on the real life events of the Raoul Moat situation in Rothbury, how and why they thought up such a stupidly ridiculous story is beyond comprehension and just gave them the title as Stupidest People On the Internet for at least that day.
Rockstar had absolutely no idea of Grand Theft Auto Rothbury and were no doubt as shocked as anyone else to discover the nonsense spouted by the seemingly rapidly declining tabloid who are desperate for stories, the Daily Star even stooped so low as to contact a grieving relative to get their reaction. Well done, idiots, causing more, unnecessary grief and stress to people affected by the incident with a story completely made up by a moron that had 5 minutes to spare in Photoshop and throw together a mock cover image of a game that is never going to exist and then blaming the game company.
In the apology, the Daily Star admits to not checking for a source to confirm any accuracy to the story and acknowledge that Rockstar had nothing to do with ‘Grand Theft Auto Rothbury’, even if they had contacted them, I’m sure that the Daily Star would have been met with a total barrage of WTF’s due to the news of the made up non-existant game didn’t originate from any of Rockstar’s departments and especially any of the GTA sections. The Daily Star have accepted all responsibility for the story, which they should because nobody else reported it due to it all being completely fictitious and therefore had no-one or nowhere to pass the buck to and even paid, “an undisclosed amount” to Rockstar of whom donated the amount to charity, but what about Ann Hornsby? The grieving grandmother of Samantha Stobbart, Raoul Moat’s ex-girlfriend of who he killed was contacted to make a comment about what she thought about the alledged, “book, movie and game” being written, made and developed, shouldn’t she receive some kind of compensation too?
Below are images taken from the Daily Star website, one is of the ‘GTA’ article and the other is of the apology, not that the apology shouod be removed from the website as it shows just how inept they are, the link to the apology is http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/145880/ and laugh at them for closing the comments, imagine the abuse they would have gotten…
